Some helping professionals, through their clinical observations, regard deep regret to be among the worst emotions a human being can experience. Deep regret is haunting, it revisits, and it can hijack a person’s self-concept and tarnish future experiences. Regret can turn ‘toxic’ when it becomes a reflection of a life unlived – a near ubreakable fixation on the road taken (or not taken) such that a person becomes stuck in negative thought patterns that prevent them from enjoying the here and now.
In this three-hour workshop, British Cognitive Behavior expert, professor, and clinician Dr. Windy Dryden will discuss regret and distinguish between toxic and healthy regret. He will outline the issues that therapists need to consider when dealing with toxic regret. Dr. Dryden will also conduct a live demonstration with a volunteer willing to discuss a current personal issue they wish to resolve concerning toxic regret.
