Program Courses

This comprehensive 23.75 CE training series is designed for clinicians ready to move beyond surface-level parts work and develop genuine, practice-ready mastery of Internal Family Systems across complex trauma presentations and advanced clinical integrations. Taught by a team of expert instructors — including Harvard-trained psychiatrist and leading IFS trainer Dr. Frank Anderson — the program delivers rigorous theoretical foundation paired with applied technique, live case demonstrations, experiential meditations, and guided exercises that build both clinical depth and immediate applicability.

Across seven course modules, you’ll develop fluency in core IFS methodology — identifying and working with Managers, Firefighters, and Exiles while cultivating Self-led awareness and the Five P’s of Self Energy (presence, patience, perspective, persistence, playfulness) — with particular emphasis on adapting the model to high-acuity trauma presentations including Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID), complex PTSD, relational trauma, attachment wounds, and shame-based protective systems.

From there, the program takes you into advanced territory: you’ll learn phase-oriented treatment strategies integrating IFS with EMDR for safe trauma processing in dissociative clients (including target selection, bilateral stimulation, and containment protocols), apply parts-based interventions to volatile couples systems using Polyvagal-informed de-escalation and nervous system regulation, address legacy burdens and transgenerational trauma, and deploy IFS techniques with specialized populations including men’s protective systems marked by emotional suppression, loneliness, and suicidality. The program also includes innovative modalities like Cinema Therapy for evoking hard-to-reach exiles through emotionally rich film scenes, giving you creative tools to lower defenses, increase client engagement, and accelerate parts work with even the most guarded and treatment-resistant clients.

Program participants in clinical practice who complete this certificate become eligible to earn the IFS-PT™ post-nominal certification credential and digital badge through Mind Works Continuing Education, LLC, signaling advanced clinical training in IFS trauma treatment, complex case formulation, and evidence-based integrations.

Why Choose Us?

Why Choose Our Certificate in IFS Skills for Trauma & Advanced Integrations?

Internal Family Systems has become one of the most sought-after clinical frameworks in trauma-informed mental health practice — and for good reason. Clients presenting with complex trauma, dissociative symptoms, treatment-resistant shame, relational volatility, and deeply entrenched protective systems are filling caseloads across every practice setting. Referral sources are asking whether clinicians are “IFS-trained.” Clients are specifically requesting parts work. And the clinical evidence continues to affirm what experienced practitioners already know: when IFS is applied skillfully, it works — not just for garden-variety anxiety and depression, but across the most challenging, high-acuity presentations including complex PTSD, Dissociative Identity Disorder, attachment wounds in couples systems, shame-based emotional dysregulation, and clients for whom traditional talk therapy has repeatedly failed.

The challenge is that most IFS continuing education stops at the conceptual level. Clinicians walk away understanding the theory of Managers, Firefighters, and Exiles but feeling underprepared for the real clinical complexity that walks through the door — the dissociative client who needs phased stabilization before trauma processing, the shame-bound client whose protectors won’t grant permission to access exiles, the volatile couple whose polarized parts are running the relationship, the guarded male client whose protective systems mask profound loneliness and suicidality, or the treatment-resistant client whose defenses block every traditional intervention. That’s exactly the gap this program is designed to close.

This comprehensive certificate program gives you synthesized, practice-ready training across the full arc of IFS clinical application: from foundational parts-based methodology and non-pathologizing ego state work through complex trauma treatment using skills-assisted exposure and anti-dissociation techniques, EMDR integration for dissociative clients with bilateral stimulation and containment protocols, Polyvagal-informed couples interventions for de-escalating verbal confrontation and addressing attachment wounds, specialized population strategies for men’s burdens and emotional suppression, shame unburdening techniques, and innovative modalities like Cinema Therapy for evoking parts and lowering defenses. You can complete the program in approximately 24 self-paced hours, on your own schedule, with lifetime access to all course content. If you want to revisit a module, reinforce a technique, or simply brush up before a challenging case — it’s always there.

If you opt to submit your training requirements to receive your post-nominal credential, you will not be required to take additional courses or pay more money just to keep your IFS-PT™ post-nominal credential “current.” We believe that when you’ve built real IFS clinical skills, you don’t lose them after a year or two. Just as you don’t have to re-earn your degree, clinical competence is deepened over time through continued practice and learning — not forfeited on a renewal calendar. If you ever feel like you’d benefit from a refresher, we welcome you to attend our group consultations (up to 4 for FREE with your program enrollment!), retake any of your enrolled on-demand program courses at no additional cost, or register for additional courses in our live webinar or home study CE catalog. Individual consultation sessions are also available if you’d like more personalized support.

When you earn your Certificate in IFS Skills for Trauma & Advanced Integrations and IFS-PT™ post-nominal credential through Mind Works Continuing Education, LLC, it becomes a signal to potential clients and referral sources that you’ve invested in serious, applied IFS training — and that you’re prepared to meet the clinical complexity they’re bringing. And because your program-level certificate and IFS-PT™ certification credential doesn’t expire, you don’t have to worry about anyone telling you to stop listing it on your website, directory profiles, or resume.
We’re excited to support your IFS learning journey!
