Live – Exposure’s Not The Only Way: Inference-Based CBT for OCD: Tools & Techniques

Live – Exposure’s Not The Only Way: Inference-Based CBT for OCD: Tools & Techniques

The idea of exposure-based therapy can be daunting for some clients suffering from crippling OCD. While ERP is the most well-known prescription for OCD, currently it is not the only evidence-based modality that is designed to tackle OCD. In fact, other options exist that do not rely on the exposure element for a successful treatment outcome. For many, I-CBT gets the job done as a stand-alone approach, backed by strong evidence of enduring positive outcomes in the face of OCD’s most challenging symptomatology.

Join us as we learn the ins and outs of Inference-Based Cognitive Behavior Therapy (I-CBT), a non-exposure based modality for the treatment of obsessive-compulsive disorder. Using a very down-to-earth and accessible teaching style, this course is designed for therapists who come in with an with an existing framework for understanding and treating (OCD). While exposure and response prevention (ERP) is another wonderful tool in treating OCD, our toolboxes for treatment should be as varied as the individuals we serve. Join us as we take a deep dive into the mechanisms of change that make I-CBT such a wonderfully healing tool.

Modern & Effective Therapy Techniques for Clients With Disabilities

Modern & Effective Therapy Techniques for Clients With Disabilities

Date course created: June 2024

The area of multicultural therapy practice around treating clients with disabilities is not given as much attention as it is with other marginalized groups of people. As the result of an increase in noncommunicable diseases and health conditions and an increase in the average human life span, the number of people with disabilities is increasing. In fact, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that 1.2 million more people were reported as having a disability in 2021 when compared to 2020 data. No matter the specific population you work with, it is important for you to maintain competence in the area of culturally-informed practice when working with people who have disabilities.

This workshop is designed to help professionals gain a better understanding of the diverse needs of people with disabilities. Physical, sensorimotor and “hidden” disabilities will be the primary focus of this informative presentation.

Therapists will gain an understanding of: the complexity and diversity of people with disabilities, how to make your practice or facility accessible to people with disabilities, specific needs that people with disabilities may have, and therapeutic techniques and skills to meet the individual needs of a client with a disability.

This training will provide participants clinical knowledge and tools to:

a). After completing this training, participants will be able to name and describe at least 3 “types” of disabilities a client may have and the potential life challenges that are common with each one.

b). After completing this training, participants will be able to learn and practice at least two effective and disability-competent therapy techniques you can use to be more helpful to a client with a disability.

ACT Advanced Strategies to Increase Psychological Flexibility: Case Conceptualizations

ACT Advanced Strategies to Increase Psychological Flexibility: Case Conceptualizations

Date course created: June 2024

ACT is becoming an increasingly popular therapy approach for its relative versatility and rich toolset, which can be applied alongside virtually any therapeutic orientation. ACT helps place the power of healing back into the client’s own strengths and natural ability to overcome adversity.

Case studies amplify your learning when starting to incorporate Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapy into your treatment approach. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy aims to increase your client’s psychological flexibility, and this training will review the ACT model, and also explore what you should be looking for with your client that leads to their inflexibility. Bach & Moran (2008) developed a case conceptualization format called the “ACT Inflexahex” which outlines the clinically relevant issues that clients may potentially demonstrate leading to psychological inflexibility and behavioral health concerns.

Trauma, substance use, anxiety, and depressed mood issues are demonstrated in the several cases examined during this webinar. Actual cases will be reviewed, and then analyzed using the Inflexahex case conceptualization model. You will learn about the six components of psychological flexibility (acceptance, perspective taking, values, defusion, committed action, and contacting the present moment). In addition, we’ll also discuss the six components of psychological inflexibility (experiential avoidance, self-as-content, lack of values clarity, fusion, persistent inactivity and impulsivity, and dominating concepts of the past and future).

**This is a 5.75-CE noninteractive, self-paced online video course delivered in home study format via an industry-standard online learning platform**

01:00 – 02:00: ACT Concepts Explained

02:00 – 03:00: Mindfulness Exercise

05:00 – 05:45: Resources and Wrap Up
