This course takes a deep dive into ADHD, going beyond the common behavioral profiles and approaches we are all familiar with. Looking at the “ripple effect” of ADHD, we’ll explore a more holistic, strengths-based conceptualization of having a uniquely-wired brain – and the impact of operating it in a neurotypical world without a user’s manual.
Moving beyond symptoms and behaviors, this training will look at the neurobiological differences and the developmental impact of ADHD, and the connection between ADHD and trauma. This deeper look at ADHD will inform how symptoms “ripple” out into daily functioning, relationships, identity development and mental health. We’ll review trauma-informed treatment for addressing the ripple effects rather than just the behaviors associated with ADHD, and guiding clients towards using their ADHD superpowers to heal from painful experiences, learn to self-regulate, and tap into their full potential. Participants will come away with specific assessment and treatment strategies to promote greater understanding, motivation, empowerment, and resilience for ADHD clients.
