At the core of many addictive disorders is the history or experience of psychological trauma. So, how do we more specifically address addiction with one of the most popular trauma therapies in use today (i.e. EMDR)?
The DeTUR method is a specific evidence based EMDR protocol for targeting triggers and urges associated with addictive behaviors. The DeTUR method uses an urge reduction model with the goal of desensitizing triggers/urges and getting to the root core trauma that has led to the dysfunctional behaviors that are associated with addictive tendencies.
