Introduction
Join us for a training that supports clinicians to recognize how autonomic states move through a family system, creating cascading patterns of dysregulation when one member shifts into threat. Participants will learn to identify each family’s unique “regulation anchors” and “dysregulation drivers,” revealing the interactional loops that keep the system stuck. Using Polyvagal Theory–informed assessment tools and interventions, clinicians will interpret family dynamics beyond traditional structural or strategic frameworks, gaining a clearer view of the nervous system patterns beneath behavior.
The course emphasizes designing interventions that target the family’s collective autonomic functioning rather than focusing solely on the identified patient. Learners will apply neuroception concepts to help families understand why certain members feel safe, activating, or threatening to one another. By the end, clinicians should have increased insight and skill to apply guidance to families in shifting these patterns toward greater coregulation, flexibility, relational safety, and finding joy.
By shifting the focus from individual blame to biological survival responses, this framework actively reduces shame and defensiveness within the therapy room. Clinicians will also learn how to navigate their own somatic resonance during highly escalated sessions to avoid being pulled into the family’s chaos. Ultimately, this empowers the therapist to serve as a grounded, external anchor while the family builds new capacities for lasting connection.

A brief ethics review, focused on the importance of mandatory disclosure when reviewing the complexities of AI and to ensure the training meets requirements for licensing board ethics training.
