CE That Meets Nevada Requirements

If you’re a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Nevada, the requirements are:

A minimum of thirty-six (36) hours of continuing education (CE) is required every two years for license renewal. Licenses renew annually, but CE is reported biennially based on the licensee’s even- or odd-year renewal cycle.

At least four (4) contact hours of the thirty-six (36) must be devoted to ethics.

At least two (2) contact hours must be in suicide prevention and awareness, and at least six (6) contact hours must be in cultural competency, diversity, equity and inclusion, or social and cultural awareness; all CE must be from providers approved by the Nevada Board of Examiners for Social Workers (e.g., ASWB-ACE approved), and all 36 hours may be completed via online/distance learning.

Nevada LCSW applicants need a qualifying master’s degree in social work, completion of the required Board-approved postgraduate clinical internship, and a passing score on the ASWB Clinical examination. Applicants pursuing Nevada licensure through the postgraduate internship pathway must complete the internship under a Board-approved supervision plan.

Nevada requires at least 3,000 hours of supervised postgraduate clinical social work, including at least 2,000 hours in psychotherapeutic methods and techniques used in the diagnosis and treatment of mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders, conditions, and addictions. The current Nevada internship policy also requires 104 hours of supervision, and the internship is generally completed over two to three years.

Yes. Under Nevada’s postgraduate clinical internship pathway, an LCSW intern is currently licensed as a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) and completes the approved clinical internship while working toward the advanced clinical license. The internship and supervision plan must be approved by the Board before the supervised hours are accrued.

Nevada requires a passing score on the ASWB Clinical examination for clinical social work licensure. Applicants must also complete Nevada’s applicable education and supervised postgraduate clinical-experience requirements before receiving the full LCSW credential.

Nevada social work licenses are renewed annually by the last day of the licensee’s birth month, even though LCSW continuing education is reported on a two-year collection cycle. Nevada has no renewal grace period; a license not renewed by the deadline becomes delinquent, and a $100 late fee applies.
