CE That Meets Oregon Requirements

If you’re a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in Oregon, the requirements are:

A minimum of forty (40) contact hours of continuing education (CE) is required every two years for license renewal (by the last day of the licensee's birth month).

At least six (6) contact hours of the forty (40) must be devoted to ethics.

At least six (6) contact hours must be in cultural competency, 10 hours may be carried over, and all CE must be from providers approved by the Oregon Board of Licensed Social Workers (e.g., ASWB-ACE approved), with no limit on distance learning or home study hours.

Yes, our courses are accepted by the Oregon Board of Licensed Social Workers for a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) via our status as approved ACE provider #1974 with the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB).

Oregon LCSW applicants need a qualifying Master of Social Work degree, the required supervised post-MSW clinical experience, a passing score on the ASWB Clinical exam, and a passing score on Oregon’s Rules and Laws exam. Applicants must also satisfy the Board’s application and background-check requirements.

Oregon requires 3,500 hours of supervised clinical experience, including at least 2,000 direct-client hours and 100 supervision hours, of which at least 50 must be individual supervision. The experience must span at least 24 months.

A Clinical Social Worker Associate (CSWA) practices under an approved supervision plan while completing the clinical experience required for full licensure. An LCSW has completed the required clinical hours and supervision and passed the ASWB Clinical exam, allowing the licensee to practice clinical social work under Oregon’s full clinical license.

No. Oregon exempts LCSWs from continuing education requirements for their first license renewal. After that first renewal, an active LCSW generally completes the standard 40-hour CE requirement during each two-year renewal period.

Oregon LCSWs renew every two years by the last day of their birth month through the Board’s Licensee Portal. Before submitting the renewal, licensees must enter their required CE activities, upload the applicable completion certificates, complete the renewal questions and Oregon Health Authority survey, and pay the renewal fee.
