ALC 3 hours ethics required, LPC 6 hours ethics required Effective.

The following applies to LPCs:

August 1, 2011, a minimum of seventy-five percent (75%) of the continuing education activities required for any licensure renewal period must consist of real-time participation in seminars, classes, workshops, presentations, training programs, or similar activities. Such real-time participation must involve licensee presence in the location of the activity as it occurs or use of interactive technology by the licensee for the activity as it occurs. Yes, our courses are accepted by the Alabama Board of Examiners in Counseling for a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) via our status as approved provider #6795 with the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC).
Once you complete a course (and associated quiz and evaluation), your certificate is instantly available for download. It includes everything your board needs.
You can take as few or as many courses as you need—it's flexible!
Alabama LPCs need 40 formal contact clock hours of relevant professional and continuing education for license renewal. These hours must be completed during the current license term and meet Alabama Board of Examiners in Counseling requirements.
Alabama LPCs need at least 6 clock hours of continuing education devoted to ethical concerns. Alabama allows ethics hours related to practice, assessment, supervision, or research in counseling.
Alabama LPC licenses renew biennially and expire on July 31 of the renewal year. The renewal application and fee must be submitted to the Alabama Board of Examiners in Counseling by August 1 of the renewal year.
Yes, Alabama LPCs can complete CE online, but format matters. At least 75% of the CE requirement must involve real-time interactive participation, which can include interactive technology as the activity occurs. Self-contained or asynchronous options, such as recorded presentations, reading, or online study without real-time interaction, do not count toward the 75% real-time requirement.
At least 75% of Alabama LPC continuing education must be real-time interactive. For a 40-hour renewal, that means at least 30 hours should be completed through live or interactive CE formats, while only up to 10 hours should come from asynchronous/self-study formats.
Real-time interactive CE includes seminars, classes, workshops, presentations, training programs, or similar activities where the licensee participates as the event occurs. Alabama allows this to happen either in person or through interactive technology.
Recorded or self-contained CE courses may count only within the non-real-time portion of the CE requirement. Alabama says asynchronous activities such as recorded presentations, reading, or online study do not qualify as real-time interactive CE if they do not include dialogue and interaction as the activity occurs.
The Alabama Board says it no longer approves individual CE courses and instead follows its Continuing Education Policy. ABEC lists accepted providers including NBCC, CRCC, NAADAC, ASCA, APA, and the State of Alabama Department of Mental Health.
Alabama CE certificates should include the licensee’s name, course or training name, provider or sponsoring entity, activity dates, provider number or provider documentation, contact hours, and whether the course was synchronous/live-interactive or asynchronous/self-study. Specialized hours, such as ethics or supervision, may also need to be listed clearly.
Yes. Alabama LPCs are responsible for keeping CE documentation for 3 years after the renewal period in which the CE was used. Alabama also conducts a mandatory random audit of 10% of LPC renewal applications, and audited licensees must submit CE verification within 30 days of the audit notice.
