Yes, our courses are accepted by the South Carolina Board of Examiners for Licensure of Professional Counselors, Marriage and Family Therapists, Addiction Counselors and Psycho-Educational Specialists for a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) via our status as approved provider #6795 with the National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC).
Once you complete a course (and associated quiz and evaluation), your certificate is instantly available for download. It includes everything your board needs.
You can take as few or as many courses as you need—it's flexible!
South Carolina LPC applicants must complete a qualifying graduate counseling program and pass either the National Counselor Examination (NCE) or the National Clinical Mental Health Counseling Examination (NCMHCE). Applicants from non-CACREP programs generally need at least 60 graduate semester hours primarily in counseling and must document the required coursework, practicum, and internship.
South Carolina requires 1,500 hours of post-master’s supervised clinical experience completed over at least two years. Of those hours, at least 1,380 must be direct client contact and at least 120 must be supervision, with a minimum of 60 supervision hours completed individually or triadically.
A Professional Counselor Associate practices under an approved clinical supervision plan while completing the post-master’s experience required for full LPC licensure. An LPC has completed the required education, examination, supervised clinical experience, and supervision requirements for full licensure.
South Carolina accepts either the NCE or the NCMHCE for professional counselor licensure. Applicants must first satisfy the Board’s education and application requirements before receiving instructions to register for the examination.
No. South Carolina’s current CE guidelines state that a first-time licensee is exempt from continuing education for the licensing period in which the initial license was obtained. After that first renewal, the standard 40-hour biennial CE requirement applies.
