“Before I even realized it, sessions turned from collaborative to controlling, and I was on the short end of it.”Anonymous therapist on what it was like to realize his difficult client may have a full blow Cluster B personality disorder.

People with strong personality disorder traits often don’t present to therapy specifically for PD treatment, but it is not uncommon to see them in therapy for various other presenting concerns (most often driven by underlying PD traits). So, undoubtedly you will see a handful of these clients in your practice, no matter the population you treat or setting you practice in, which makes a certain set of PD treatment skills that much more valuable for any therapist who wishes to find successful outcomes in the most challenging of clinical circumstances.

Personality disordered individuals can be some of the most difficult consumers of mental health services for psychologists and others mental health clinicians to treat effectively. Clearing the fog surrounding the different conditions and getting to the core of each individual client make-up is vital to a successful treatment outcome. Drawing from the most recent literature, outcome trials, case studies and 20 years of clinical experience, Jeff Riggenbach, PhD will describe the latest evidence-based treatment options and show you how to avoid common pitfalls and therapeutic traps of these individuals who often leave clinicians feeling frustrated, stuck, disheartened, and even completely burned out.

In this full day training, Jeff will also cover each of the DSM-5 personality disorders and give you simple but effective engagement, management, and treatment techniques for each clinical presentation. Empirically supported strategies from DBT, CBT, and Schema Therapy will be incorporated into an integrated treatment approach that will transform the way your work with this challenging population. You will leave this engaging and enriched skills-based training feeling revitalized – equipped with a new, comprehensive, empowering approach to assess, conceptualize, and treat this difficult population in a way that offers hope for patients and reinvigoration for providers.
