You probably notice that some clients are naturally more receptive to “going deep” in session. These clients may benefit from a more philosophically engaging approach to therapy. Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT) is just that, and it can be a superb alternative to standard CBT, especially for our more cognitively flexible clients. REBT is considered a foundational approach under the broader umbrella of CBT, carrying many decades of evidence-informed clinical research support for a broad array of conditions. Additionally, REBT is considered highly adaptive across cultures, age groups, and clinical settings, making it a fantastic clinical toolset for clinicians working in all areas of mental health.
In this two and half hour workshop, leading British Cognitive Behavior expert, professor, and clinician Dr. Windy Dryden will discuss the distinctive features of REBT theory and practice. In particular, he will provide a modern perspective on REBT’s ABC framework and outline a step-by-step guide for using REBT with clients. In doing the latter, Dr. Dryden will introduce and describe several effective and efficient techniques he has found helpful in his 40+ years of using these techniques successfully with his own clients in practice.
