This seminar will provide attendees a comprehensive evidence-based Cognitive Behavioral Therapy approach proven to be effective in the treatment of insomnia that participants can easily integrate into their clinical practice. Objectives:

This training will provide participants clinical knowledge and tools to:

a). Understand diagnosis, assessment and treatment indications.

b). Provide education on the functions of normal sleep and circadian rhythm and the affects of poor sleep quality and quantity.

c). Identify precipitating and perpetuating factors of insomnia as well as ways these can be defused.

d). Execute the various components of CBT-I, including sleep restriction and stimulus control.

e). Apply individualized sleep-wake schedules to enhance sleep efficiency through sleep restriction.

f). Target your client’s thoughts, behaviors, and emotions that disrupt sleep.

g). Apply skills to calm the mind and manage stress.

h). Recognize and address comorbidities and primary conditions commonly associated with insomnia and for whom CBT-I may not be appropriate.

Dr. Jessica Bergstrom, Psy.D., is a licensed Clinical Psychologist specializing in in the treatment of anxiety, depression, health psychology, insomnia, trauma, and general applications to psychotherapy. She completed her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from the PGSP-Stanford Psy.D. Consortium in Palo Alto, California. She received both her clinical and research training at Stanford University School of Medicine and Palo Alto University. She has worked and trained in a variety of clinical settings including Department of Veterans Affairs, Stanford Medical Center, and a mental health clinic through one of the nation’s largest not-for-profit health plans. Dr. Bergstrom specializes in working with individuals across the lifespan to overcome insomnia, anxiety, posttraumatic stress disorder, and depression, and facilitates psychoeducational classes and support groups.
