Objectives:

This training will provide participants clinical knowledge and tools to:

a). After completing this training, participants will be able to understand diagnosis, assessment and treatment indications.

b). After completing this training, participants will be able to provide education on the functions of normal sleep and circadian rhythm and the affects of poor sleep quality and quantity.

c). After completing this training, participants will be able to identify precipitating and perpetuating factors of insomnia as well as ways these can be defused.

d). After completing this training, participants will be able to execute the various components of CBT-I, including sleep restriction and stimulus control.

e). After completing this training, participants will be able to apply individualized sleep-wake schedules to enhance sleep efficiency through sleep restriction.

f). After completing this training, participants will be able to target your client’s thoughts, behaviors, and emotions that disrupt sleep.

g). After completing this training, participants will be able to apply skills to calm the mind and manage stress.

h). After completing this training, participants will be able to recognize and address comorbidities and primary conditions commonly associated with insomnia and for whom CBT-I may not be appropriate.

Dr. Jessica Bergstrom, Psy.D., is a licensed Clinical Psychologist specializing in in the treatment of anxiety, depression, health psychology, insomnia, trauma, and general applications to psychotherapy. She completed her doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from the PGSP-Stanford Psy.D. Consortium in Palo Alto, California. She received both her clinical and research training at Stanford University School of Medicine and Palo Alto University. She has worked and trained in a variety of clinical settings including Department of Veterans Affairs, Stanford Medical Center, and a mental health clinic through one of the nation’s largest not-for-profit health plans. Dr. Bergstrom specializes in working with individuals across the lifespan to overcome insomnia, anxiety, posttraumatic stress disorder, and depression, and facilitates psychoeducational classes and support groups.
